Lykke Li LIVE! In Review

Last night I saw Lykke Li for the very first time at The First Unitarian Church OR as it seems everyone else calls it, "the church".

I won't lie when I say that I originally thought about skipping out even after I bought the tickets ahead of time. It's Friday night, it's cold outside plus I'm tired from waking up early for work all week and ALL I want to do is sleep forever.

I suck it up and head out.

Ok, the line outside the church isn't too long, lets go stand in it and wait. Cut to me 45 minutes later with frozen toes and finger tips and they FINALLY let us in amongst the screams and cheers from the other frozen people in line with me.

Once inside the first act, Swedish husband and wife (young bucks!) duo Wildbirds & Peacedrums came out and banged the shit out of a drum and screamed into a microphone. I was completely blown away. I'll have to look them up later.

Then finally came out Lykke to Melodies and Desires. Lit up completely by candles and nothing else (which I admit I was a little nervous about watching the R5 people tell people to back up from the stage and be careful) amazing shadows were cast on the wall behind her. PERFECT! Then she sang. She was amazing. She was wild. An intimate show I’ve never experienced ever before. I was super close and she danced her face off. The crowd full of hipsters thrashing everywhere was kind of weird but I didn’t care. The energy she gave off made it all worth it. She even let out a COME ON because apparently the crowd wasn’t wild enough for her! Amazing Amazing Amazing.

Set List:
Dance, Dance, Dance
Everybody
I'm Good, I'm Gone
My Love (favorite)
Hanging High (NEW favorite)
Little Bit
Complaint Department
Lonely
Let It Fall
Window Blues
Tonight
I Don't Mind/Lil' Wayne
Breaking it Up (favorite)

Encore:
Time Flies
Can I Kick It

I can't wait until she comes back.

Best show of 2009 so far.

Is it too early to tell?

I don't care.

i'm embarrassed

mostly because the only way i've heard of this song was because i was watching MTV.

who can resist the MTV: Brooklyn?

introducing (way later than it's probably been released) Lily Allen's "The Fear"

it's fantastic, the music, the lyrics. completely different than what i'm used to hearing from her. but i like the new path she's taken. especially because the last i heard or knew of her, she was stumbling down some london street claiming she snogged two twin lesbians when she was wasted? what? when isn't she wasted? anway, i look forward to hearing more.

today, history was made in America. and today, my eyes watered. a lot.

January 20th 2009 marks the inauguration, and history being made, as Barack Obama the very first African American man was elected as President of the United States of America.

DC

[ Incredible Aerial View ]

Millions of people showed up giving up the feeling in their limbs just to witness history in the making.

I couldn't stop smiling.

My eyes couldn't stop tearing.

Especially as I thought about my grandparents, and the phone call my grandmother left me the day after Obama won the election telling me how proud she was, not only that she could live to see the day, but that I got to be a part of history.

And finally, because of THIS:

Etta James' "At Last" standing alone makes my knees buckle and my eyes water up. But to hear Beyonce sing it with tears swelling in her eyes as she watched Barack and Michelle Obama dance their very first dance as first couple of the nation, I lost it. Thank you Beyonce for giving me a moment of watery eyes over something else other than when I'm intoxicated out and hear your Single Ladies dance come on the radio.

I'm so utterly proud of our country right now I'm lost in my thoughts and emotions. I wish best of luck to President Obama but after all, it can't be any worse than the last 8 years, right?

Special Ops: How to move two presidents in six hours

Interesting article on CNN's front page this morning on everything that goes into moving two presidents in 6 hours undercover while the rest of the world watches the inauguration and parade.

http://www.cnn.com/2009/POLITICS/01/19/obama.move/index.html

"Their clothes will be in their closets; everything will be put away," Walters said. "There should be no full or half-empty boxes will in view. Furniture will be set in proper places. Their favorite foods will be in the kitchen or the pantry. The chief usher will welcome them into their home and ask them what they would like to do before going out to enjoy the inaugural balls."

Hello, Mr. President, welcome to your home.

Do They Really Think These Work? This One Made Me Laugh.

Really Diggin Lykke Li Right Now. Better Late Than Never, Right?

you probably know by now that most of my spare time consists of me spending time on the internet. whilst stalking one of my favorite websites for upcoming shows that i can go to, i come across Lykke Li.

lykke li

i had been seeing her come up a lot on people's "recently played" lists on last.fm, but never actually got around to downloading anything of hers to actually take a listen.

UNTIL that is, this past weekend. and now what can i say? i'm hooked.

can't stop listening to "little bit"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=93CDQ4d6vH4
(i don't believe this video has anything to do with her, but i just wanted to put out the recorded version for all to hear)

and "my love", which is my favorite right now
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=otbGAoqMgDg
the music reminds me of something that i can't even put into words right now. it will probably come back to me at a completely inconvenient time where i can't get to a computer fast enough to put it down.

the rest of her album "youth novels" is certainly worth a listen, nothing is a let down. now i'm considering her show coming up at the first unitarian church. hm what to do what to do?

Freaky Deaky Brother And Sister Together Forever

The world found out today that Dexter star Michael C Hall was not only in a secret relationship with his costar Jennifer Carpenter (aka his character's sister), but that they married on New Years Eve!

happy couple

Congratulations to the happy couple! Maybe they can talk together in great detail, perhaps on their honeymoon over wine at sunset with dolphins splashing in the background, about how crappy this past season's finale was.

What? It was.

I Hate This Commercial, And It MIGHT Be Borderline Racist.

I'm curious to know what other people's thoughts are.

I guess McDonald's can't help but think that the only way to appeal to black people (besides selling chicken BA DUM CHHHHH!) is setting it to some rap or r&b video. Did it work for me? Hell no. The only thing it does for me is piss me off every time it gets stuck in my head after someone at work sings it to me on purpose.

GIRRRL YOU GOTTA TEN PIECE PLEASE DON'T BE STIN-JAAAAAY!

Ba da ba ba baaaaa... I'm hatin it!
